DIY Calculator Hub publishes planning calculators for DIY spacing, woodworking, board and batten, fence pickets, balusters, gravel, stone, sand, and aggregate projects. The tools are designed for quick estimating and layout math, not engineering certification or supplier scale-ticket replacement.

Methodology reviewed: July 24, 2026. Formulas are checked against unit tests and independently readable worked examples. Presets are starting assumptions and stay editable because densities, gradations, moisture, compaction, and local specifications vary.
Calculation Method
Project volume is calculated from measured geometry. Compacted volume is converted to loose order volume with the selected compaction allowance, then waste is added. Weight equals loose volume multiplied by editable bulk density. One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet, and one US short ton equals 2,000 pounds.
Purpose-built tools add their own geometry: pavers separate aggregate base and bedding sand; shed pads add perimeter overhang; drain trenches subtract pipe displacement; riprap uses actual slope length; retaining walls include drainage-zone and base-trench volumes; parking pads separate base and surface layers.
