How to take the measurements
Decide whether the volume is known or must be measured.
For dimensions, measure length and width in feet.
Measure depth in inches and use the finished average depth.
Ask the supplier for tons per cubic yard or bulk density.
Compare pounds, short tons, kilograms, and metric tonnes.

How the calculator works
Weight = cubic feet x bulk density. Cubic yards x 27 = cubic feet.
Example: 1 cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet. At 100 lb/ft3, it weighs 2,700 lb, or 1.35 short tons.
